  • What is your coaching philosophy?

    At Albion Field Hockey Club, we are focused on creating a positive environment where players build field hockey skills, cultivate sportsmanship, have fun, and form positive relationships with their fellow players. As a field hockey “club” we offer additional training and playing opportunities for athletes who would like to improve their overall ability and become more advanced in skill and strategy.

  • Do you accept drop-ins?

    No, currently we do not accept drop-ins. Clinics and camps are a great opportunity to drop-in. However, if you are trying to determine if this is a good fit, then please email us at aplayle@albionhurrianes.org to arrange for a Trial Training Session and Skills Evaluation at one of our of training sessions by appointment.

  • What skill levels are available?

    We train beginner players through advanced players. Players are grouped by age, within reason, for training and competition. Usual groupings include U10, U12, U14, U16, U19, and Adult.

  • What age group does my child fall under?

    U6: Birthdates that fall between 8/1/2020 - 7/31/2022


    U8: Birthdates that fall between 8/1/2018 - 7/31/2020


    U10: Birthdates that fall between 8/1/2016 - 7/31/2018


    U12: Birthdates that fall between 8/1/2014 - 7/31/2016


    U14: Birthdates that fall between 8/1/2012- 7/31/2014


    U16: Birthdates that fall between 8/1/2010 - 7/31/2012


    U19: Birthdates that fall between 1/1/20067- 7/31/2010

  • What does a typical training session involve?

    Each session includes skills work, strategy, and game play.

  • How do I know if this is a good fit for my player?

    Email us at aplayle@albionhurrianes.org to arrange for a Trial Training Session and Skills Evaluation by appointment at one of our regularly scheduled training sessions. We will help you determine where you would fit into our program.

  • Do I have to tryout?

    Yes, for the Competitive Teams.  But, tryouts are not to make cuts from our program; tryouts just determine which team they are placed on. We also offer a Recreational Program that does not require tryouts.

  • Are private lessons or private group sessions available with coaching staff?

  • Will I need to travel for tournaments? Will Albion participate in tournaments?

    Our intent is to provide opportunities to travel for various tournaments throughout the year. Travel Team participation is a higher level of commitment that will involve a tryout with an evaluation for team placement. Traveling is optional and not a requirement to be a part of Albion Field Hockey Club.

  • What equipment is needed for field players?

    1. Field Hockey Stick (there are indoor and outdoor versions, for beginners we recommend purchasing an outdoor stick that can be used during school field hockey season)
    2. Field Hockey shin guards
    3. Mouthguard
    4. Athletic shoes (or turf shoes for indoors)
    5. Uniform purchase is required for the Competitive teams. 
    6. Water bottle
  • What equipment is needed for Goalies?

    Goalies require personal equipment designed to maximize protection. If your player is interested in beginning training as a Goalie, then please contact us.

  • How are sticks sized?

    It is important to have the correctly sized stick. Typically, the stick should come to the top of your hip bone. General guidelines are below:

    4’ and under 28 inches


    4’1” – 4’ 3” 30 inches


    4’4” – 4’6” 32 inches


    4’7” – 5’ 34 inches


    5’1” – 5’3” 35-35.5 inches


    5’4” – 5’9” 36-36.4 inches


    5’10 and over 37-37.5 inches


    Field hockey sticks range in weight from 535 grams to 560 grams. The weight of the stick depends on personal preference. Depending on your style of play or field position, there are advantages to lighter sticks or heavier sticks.

  • Are you affiliated with USA Field Hockey?

    Yes, Albion Field Hockey is an official USA Field Hockey Club.

  • Do I need a USA Field Hockey Membership?

    Recreational Players must have a local membership with USA Field Hockey and our Competitive Players must have an Annual membership with USA Field Hockey, but this is built into the cost of the program and will be purchased for our players by the club.
